The first part describes the language of the time to enable the reader to achieve a proper understanding of the literature introduced in the second part. The authors describe the language as it was used in different parts of the country, giving guidance on pronunciation, metre and vocabulary, and showing how the language evolved in the period. The also explain how a manuscript text is edited. The following texts are presented: "The Peterborough Chronicle"; "Sir Orfeo"; "Patience"; "St Erkenwald"; John Trevisa's "Dialogue Between a Lord and Clerk"; and the York play of the crucifixion. There are, additionally, extracts from "Piers Plowman", "The Cloud of Unknowing", "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and John Gower's "Confessio Amantis". Each text is accompanied by notes.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / non-returnable items
Certain types of items cannot be returned, like custom products or special orders. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
