We source much of our stock from you our customers, buying the titles they either don't want or haven't got space for. We have the best range of secondhand books in Ireland because you our customers have the best taste in books which is why we only have great books on offer. Whether you are making space for more books or just looking for some extra cash we give you the freedom to choose from cash or store credit, please note we give a higher price for store credit. Trade in’s are currently only available in our store in Parnell Street but we are working hard to bring the service online in 2025.

If a book doesn't meet our high standards it's sent for recycling. No book is wasted.

To encourage you to explore a wide range of authors and genres, we offer a 50% trade-in value for books with our purple sticker. This value can be used as store credit towards another book purchase.

There are some terms and conditions outlined below:

Keep the Label: The purple sticker must remain on the book.

Time Limit: The book must be traded in within 30 days of the original purchase date. Be accompanied by original receipt.

Condition: The book must be in good, saleable condition, free from rips, stains, or writing. We reserve the right to determine the book's condition and trade-in value.

Store Credit Only: Trade-in value is provided as store credit and cannot be redeemed for cash.

Right of Refusal: Chapters reserves the right to refuse any trade-in.

By trading in your book, you agree to these terms and conditions. Offer currently only available in store.

Chapters Bookstore is located in Parnell Street Dublin 1, Ireland. Most products will be in English, but we do also sell items in other languages. The language of a specific item will be detailed in its product description.

 

By becoming a bookstore who also sells new books - we hope to widen our audience and make books more accessible to our customers.

By selling new books, customers can find us when they are looking to buy the latest best-seller, which at some point, will only be available new - but then also come back to us to buy a wide range of long-published texts whenever they are shopping, instead of buying a new copy every time. Selling new books fits into our purpose in this way, by expanding the consumers that we reach, and spreading the message that used books are a great alternative.

We encourage people to re-sell these books via our Trade In service, in store and coming soon online so that they can enter the circular economy.

Chapters Bookstore is a worldwide business and as such the delivery company will vary, depending on delivery address and if the service chosen is free or paid for. All free delivery orders in Ireland will be shipped using An Post Mail service from the Republic Of Ireland. Most orders will be delivered within two to three business days. If the book must first be sent to our distribution centre, it could occasionally take up to 5 working days, depending on the item. All of our parcels are delivered by An Post, who works from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Because they are not considered working days, Saturday and Sunday are excluded from the delivery window. You will be notified via email once your order has been shipped, and An Post will thereafter provide you delivery updates to keep you informed of the status of your delivery and the estimated time of delivery.

The paid for delivery for international orders will vary by country and delivery destination.

Europe – up to 7 working days
USA & Canada – up to 10 working days
Rest of World – up to 12 working days

We have a free delivery option for most of orders over €30 in Ireland. International shipping costs are priced per item in your order and
vary by shipping country, please enter your address at checkout to find out exact costs. For more information please see the Shipping Information page.

For an additional fee we offer express delivery and a tracked shipping service, though only to specific destinations. These options will be offered to you during the checkout process. If no further options are available, only the free delivery option will be shown.

Express shipping will offer faster delivery times once your order has been processed - and in many cases will come with faster picking and packing. Please check our Shipping Information page for more details.

While we do try to keep orders together, our stock is growing, so your items may be fulfilled from different warehouses to help ensure the quickest possible delivery. Your order may therefore be split into multiple packages. You will only be charged delivery costs on the first package.

 

Orders can come with tracking provided, but only for specific destinations.

During checkout you will be offered shipping options based on the destination. For orders in Ireland, free shipping is always offered. If there are no other options for your chosen destination, then we are currently unable to offer them, though work is underway to improve our tracking services.

If your order has tracking, it is likely you will receive notifications from our delivery service provider (For example: An Post for Irish Customers).

You can change your address at any time during the Checkout Process. However, because we process requests very quickly once your order's been placed, it may no longer be possible to change the delivery address. If you have made a mistake with your order, please get in touch as soon as possible and we will try and resolve any issues.

We cannot provide full tracking for all of our orders.

However, we do update the status of your order according to which stage it is at in our fulfilment process. You will also be sent emails throughout this process letting you know the progress of your order. Please see 'Is my order tracked?' for more information.

Despite our best efforts to fulfil your purchase as a whole, there may be times when we must ship a portion of it separately owing to stock difficulties. For instance, if you purchase three goods and one of them is out of stock, we could ship the other two while we wait for more of the third item to arrive. We only charge once for shipping an order regardless of how many deliveries. 

Registered Customers - If you have set up an Account the current status of your order is displayed in your Account Dashboard. You can find this by logging in through the 'My Account' area on the website.

Guest Customers - If you have placed an order as a Guest the Account Dashboard facility is not available. We will also keep you up-to-date by email at every stage of the dispatch process. As we work with third party suppliers, some of our new books can have slightly longer than usual lead times, and as such it may take an additional 5-7 days above our typical delivery timeframes for us to get it to you, regardless of delivery method chosen at checkout.

We accept payments by PayPal and by all major credit and debit cards (excluding American Express). Provided you have a compatible device or browser we are also able to take payment using Apple Pay or Google Pay.

We can only cancel an order if it hasn't yet been processed by our picking and packing department. Usually products are processed within a matter of hours, so this limits our ability to cancel an order before this time. If you have made a mistake with your order, please get in touch as soon as possible and we will try and resolve any issues.

We are happy to refund a product if it is defective, or within 30 days of purchase upon the return of your product. If you return a product to us and request a refund due to an error on our part we will be happy to pay for the postage cost to return it to us.

Please let us know as soon as possible ideally within 72 hours if you are unhappy with the condition of the books. You will need to send the items back to us (we will cover the costs of the return). Yes; Chaptersbookstore.com offers a click and collect service where your books are shipped to our Parnell street store for collection. Please ensure you bring your order number and some identification upon collection.

Yes; an emphatic yes this is very essence of Chapters and we would love to see all our customers trade in their old books for something new to read. We always want your books at Chapters Bookstore.

Whether you are making space for more books or just looking for some extra cash we give you the freedom to choose from cash or store credit, please note we give a higher price for store credit.

There is no limit to the number of books you can trade in, we would ask if you have over 15 books to trade in to make an appointment with our secondhand dept prior to arriving instore so that we can make sure that you don’t suffer any delays. Books should be in a good saleable condition. We
reserve the right to refuse a trade in.
