A blend of 50% Garnacha and 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, grown organically in a small, old single vineyard. The plot borders Priorat, so the soil is a mix of the iconic llicorella slate and clay.
The wine is crafted by renowned Catalan winemaker, Toni Coca, and production is limited to 2,500 bottles per year.
The front label was designed by Barcelona-based Irish artist, Mark Redden and each bottle is individually numbered.
GRAPES: 50% Grenache, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
ALCOHOL CONTENT: 13.2% abv
SUSTAINABILITY: Organically farmed vineyards, solar panels for energy, beehives to promote biodiversity. Fermentation with native vineyard yeasts.
TASTING NOTES:
Juicy and fruit-forward style, with the red berry fruits of the Garnacha grapes beautifully framed by the cassis and silky tannins of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The finish is dry and long, with a distinct slatey mineral note.
More About the Producer.
Originally from Boyle, Co Roscommon, Tom Gallagher moved to Spain with his parents in 2001, when he was 9 years old. The family settled in Catalunya and ran several hotels and guest houses. More recently they moved to Falset, the capital of the Priorat wine region, where his parents, John and Joan Gallagher, run a boutique hotel.
During Covid Tom bought an abandoned 4.5ha vineyard in Montsant, with old gnarly, overgrown vines. He spent lockdown taming the vineyard and started producing his first wine, Diga, with the 2021 vintage.
Tom lives on the organic plot of land on a modern farmhouse, completely off-grid. Electricity is supplied from solar panels he installed, and water is pumped from the groundwater beneath the vineyards.
