Honoured as one of the greatest  poets of the 20th century, Seamus Heaney's poetry transports readers to the undulating Irish landscapes that served as his inspiration. Heaney's significant contributions to poetry, prose, and translation while providing an insight into his complex and exquisitely constructed literary universe. He edited a number of frequently used anthologies in addition to writing more than 20 volumes of poetry and criticism. In 1995, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature "for works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth, which exalt everyday miracles and the living past." Between 1989 to 1994, Heaney held the Oxford Professor of Poetry title. He also taught at Harvard University from 1985 to 2006.  

    He died in August 2013 in Dublin.
