Support Your Fave Authors (and Chapters) Without Spending €
Want to help authors AND Dublin’s best bookshop? Post, tag, shout about us online. Zero euros, maximum bookish karma. You’re welcome.
Look, we get it. Times are tight. Your TBR pile is already dangerously high. And yet - you really, really want to support your favourite authors and your local, independent bookshop. (Hi, that’s us, Chapters Bookstore Dublin. The big one on Parnell Street with the Secondhand treasures and occasional visiting dogs.)
Good news: you absolutely can help us and your literary heroes without spending a single euro. Here’s how.
Pre-Order Their Books (It’s Magic, We Swear)
Okay, yes - technically this does cost money, but hear us out: pre-orders are publishing gold. They tell publishers, “Hey, people love this author! Print more copies! Promote it harder! Give them a massive book tour (that maybe stops at Chapters Dublin)!”
Even if you can’t pre-order yourself, you can still:
· Share pre-order links from our website.
· Gently remind your mates: “Oh, you’re obsessed with Marian Keyes? Pre-order her new one at Chapters before it sells out.”
· Comment on our social posts about upcoming releases to boost their reach.
Leave a Review (But Not Where You Think)
Everyone thinks of the places that begin with A or G first. Instead? Pop your review on our website. Or on our Instagram @chaptersbookstore. Or even in a lovely, unhinged tweet tagging @chaptersbooks.
Your words don’t have to be Pulitzer-worthy. A simple “This book broke me and then fixed me” works just fine. Reviews on independent bookshop sites help others discover authors and keep us visible in search results.
Post About Them. Tag Them. Tag Us. Repeat.
Authors love seeing readers post their books on Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky - anywhere. Bonus points if you:
· Tag the author.
· Tag @chaptersbooks.
· Use hashtags like #ChaptersBookstoreDublin or #IrishBookshop so more readers find us.
You have no idea how much that helps. One story share can reach people who don’t even know Chapters exists (shocking, we know).
Amplify the Message (Be Our Echo)
See us post about an event, new stock, or a signing? Hit share, repost, retweet, or whatever the app of the day is doing. Every time you amplify our posts, it tells the algorithm: “This place matters.” And we do. To you. To Dublin. To anyone who still thinks of bookshops as “third places” (see other blog for more about that – it is very academicy!)
Write a Blog, Post a Reel, Snap a Shelfie
You don’t need 10k followers to make an impact. Write a blog about your favourite reads. Post a reel of your chaotic TBR. Take a “shelfie” of your Chapters haul and tag us. People trust recommendations from real humans more, as they should – we will try and share as much of you as we can!
Talk About Us in Real Life
Whisper it to a stranger on the bus. Yell it in your book club. Casually mention to your dentist that Chapters has Ireland’s largest Secondhand book section. Word of mouth is old-school but ridiculously powerful.
Tell Us You Love Us
We’re not saying we’re needy, but we do love a compliment. Comment on our posts. Send us a DM about your latest find. Tell your friends about our events page. Every bit of love helps us keep doing what we do best - keeping Dublin’s biggest independent bookstore alive and thriving and helping to support authors and publishers.
Why It All Matters
Supporting your favourite authors helps keep them writing. Supporting your local indie bookshop keeps your community vibrant. Together? You’re helping sustain a place where you can wander for hours, discover something unexpected, and leave with a bag of stories (or at least a new notebook).
So next time you finish a book you love, remember: you don’t have to spend a euro to make a difference. You just have to shout a little louder about it.
